DZUS fasteners....
19.08.2009 at 11:05:08

Has anybody ever fitted DZUS fasteners?

I think the ones I need are flush, not sure which tool I need to fit them and as it's $79.00 don't want to get the wrong one!

Anybody help?!?!?

Thanks,

Tim

I have limited experience of Dzus fasteners, but the little I have convinced me that they are the work of the devil.  Invariably you end up having bought the wrong length & they end up either loose or impossible to close.

We used Skybolts on our cowl and the adjustable depth makes them so much easier to work with.

I've used both types of Skybolt, they are excellent. The adjustable ones are easy to fit and adjust but are quite large. The smaller flush ones are very neat but you have to get the exact right length for them to be flush and secure. I borrowed the tools from Alan Weal.

I haven't used DZUS on the RV (yet) but I'd have to agree that they are definitely a bugger to get right. We used to use them for the covers for ground remediation equipment we manufacture but gave up with them after a year or so. I wouldn't be rushing back to try them again.

Tim,
I have fitted hundreds of these blighters and can concur with the others that they are the devels advocate in the form of a fastener. You will find that after a while they will wear loose and if that does not occur the forked /split tang will fracture and a replacement will have to be fitted. Getting the correct length can be a fiddle as well and if the fit is not right they look unsightly. My opinion would be look for an alternative that will give you better durability.
