Hi again An update - I ordered the rest of the RV7 kit today - Quickbuild as it looks like I will be going it alone. Better make some progress with the empennage which means I had better shift that motorbike so I can finish the oither bike rebuild to get enough space to work.....lol The trip to Sywell last weekend was really informative - amongst other things - I do fit the cockpit on a 7 - it was a wee bit cramped in Dave's 6. Must remember to put the pedals at full extension and leave out the booster cushion. The finsh on some of the RV's was incrediable and a real inspiration (ok even if I am now only doing half the work - lol) and the chat with some owners was equally informative - thanks No doubt I will be leaning on your collected experiences to avid some of the gotchas and also as I don't have enough cover left to indulge in too much head scratching. I could't find the edit profile button to update the status - any clues anyone ? I'd still like to hear from any intending or indeed experienced builders in Scotland. Ian

Good - looks like we are getting there. As I said earlier - bear with me, I will coordinate everything later this month and we will all know who, what, where, when etc. Mike

Hi Mike I ordered a 7 QB Fuselage and Wings plus finish kit today. Awaiting confirmation of lead time but estimate was 8 weeks by phone and so I'd like to share the container if there is still room. I made Vans aware of that intention and in case they can assist from their end. I'm in Scotland and so will need to arrange onward shipping - anyone else in Scotland or indeed en route ? Now I had better crack on with the empennage ! Cheers Ian

Gents I am half way through my RV8 build and am emigrating to Qatar in October. My co-builder is going to finish off the build. After that I am toying with the idea of taking the aircraft out to Qatar. Does anyone know if, on a permit to fly, there is a restriction on how long such an aircraft is allowed to be out of the country? Obviously maintenence would have to be signed off by an LAA inspector. If Qatar authorities are happy for a permit to fly might this be possible? Thought I'd ask here before speaking to the LAA!! All purely hypothetical at this stage! Cheers Rob

| I've e-mailed for a final quote; all my parts will be packed in with the FWF kit so it will be the 1 crate, but I do not have dimensions or weight as yet. | |

Spoke with Anne on Wednesday, the container is filling up......... If you are wanting to get something by Christmas, I would suggest dropping Anne a line to see current status. We will fill on a first come basis - if it fills up and there are more orders, someone else can coordinate the second one. I should have a confirmed list at the end of Sept for this container. Mike

Bob, Thanks for that, I have changed spec to the T21 transponder. I am a little concerned that it may be too fiddly? Pete, “This might seem a bit daft, but the fuel consumption will depend on how far you open the throttle, and can vary from 22 lit/h (or less) at around 120kt up to 40+ lit/h if you charge around the countryside at 160kt. Many people chose 135kt as a good compromise between economy and speed, and get about 27 lit/h.” Ok, perhaps I did not ask the right question. On my existing aircraft I run at a std cruse setting and my fuel consumption is consistent to 0.25 L. I was trying to find out what people used in real world situations. For my budget I have used 33 lit/h and assumed 150kn, is that realistic for the above spec? “A metal prop is about twice the weight of a wooden prop, and makes the aeroplane vibrate more. Have you considered an MT (or similar) fixed pitch?” I have always found a considerable performance deficit using wood props. If that not true of an RV? I have also tryied to keep it std as the LAA aerobatic approval is vital to the project. Can it be approved with an MT? I also worry about flying in rain. “I would stronly suggest that you fly behind any EFIS before buying it” I have MGL in my current machine, but without the AP and remote control radio. I will research the AP, thanks. (I am told it is very popular with RV owners, so I will track one down via P for A). Sorry for all the questions! Rod
