Shipping Forum
02.12.2008 at 12:33:21

Hello Tim et al,

I would like to propose a new 'shipping' forum dedicated to the following topics:

  • Consolidated shipping of VANs parts, equipment etc.

  • Shipping charges monitor. IE do we all get the best value quotes from BAX BM etc.

  • Forum nominated containers target dates.

  • Explanation, experiences of related imposed taxes and charges also costs.

Hope this finds an audience and if so I will post a notice on the RVSQN site to direct interested parties here!

I can add a shipping section.

What do other forum members think?

Sounds like a good idea, I just wonder if sufficient people come on this forum but if word got around then it may become a more frequent visit for others.

All,

I think this would be an excellent idea that would help all of us in one way or another. Good suggestion David.

Board added, will see how it goes.

Don't forget to set your notification - you can set for just mail relating to your container/post or the whole board.

Thanks Tim.

I agree that we do have to make people aware of the benefits of the RVForum.

By having some unique facilities, this forum could 'stand out' from the crowd so we've all got to get our creative hats on!

Many of the RVSQN subscribers do'nt see a need to change, and with all things 'IT' it can be a pain in the backside to remember yet another login/password etc. But this forum is starting to catch.

It's great for images, searches and ease of use too.

For my part, I would like to see a much more 'granular' approach ie. Engines, howto workshops etc. but it will only come if there is the audience awareness.

FWIW. I've posted an  item on the RVSQN to make people aware of the new Shipping forum!  Smiley

Regards

Hi All
Just thought I would let you know that I collected my Finishing Kit and FWF kit ( packed in the same box ) from Manchester freight terminal last Thursday
As some of you will know i opted to have it shipped by Sea, not the quickest way to get your hands on it ( took five weeks from leaving Vans to my house ) but at least its here now and saved a packet over the cost of air freight
Vans once again did a tremendous job in packing it all in with no damage at all.
So now to the cost Total invoice was £501.25  Wink

My tips are for any shipping.....

Order well in advance of your requirement date ( I ordered the finiishing kit last August ! )
Order as much as you can Vans will utilise all available box space
Have it shipped by sea
Rent or borrow a large van to collect your shipment.( shipping company wanted £172.00+vat to truck it 70 miles to my home)  Angry
The van and diesel cost  £55   Cool

Cheers
Mark

I don't know if this is useful or not, but my company regaulrly imports plant from the US. We use a firm called Transaction International Ltd:

Unit 2b,
Drakes Farm, Drakes Drive,
Long Crendon,
Aylesbury,
Buckinghamshire
HP18 9BA

Freephone: 0800 1073843

I've always found them really good and very competitive. I'd be happy to get a quote from them for the container that we are trying to put together for early next year if folks think that would be worthwhile.

Cheers

Hello Duncan,

That's great, please do so.

So that we can compare 'oranges with oranges' ...... We will look to Felixstowe for the point of disembarkation. That may change depending on where everybody prefers, but for now. Aurora, Oregon. USA > Felixstowe. ! 40' container is what you need to tell them. Also shipment date late March early April.

Regards

Gents,

As I understand it from when I shipped. The shipping (the actual at sea part) quote can only be fixed 30 days before departure, otherwise they are estimates. This is due to the moving price of oil etc effecting the cost.

I ordered my 8QB last week and now have a ship date of March 09 so I am in.  I will send David my shipping data for the spreadsheet as I am including all the extra stuff in the crates.

Incidentaly, I live 2 miles from Long Crendon so could call in on Transaction International if any negotiation is needed.
