Steve Hutt has shared his workings with us in the form of this spreadsheet: (Thank you Steve)

http://www.rvforum.co.uk/files/container.xls

Each consignment has been anonymised and the Volume, Value, Fixed Cost are merely an indication of the workings as is the $1.95 exchange rate.

Play around with the data substituting your own requirements as appropriate.

Shortly, I will provide more contemporary data when we feel we have a viable proposal.

Please use the Shipping forum to comment as you see fit.

If you have worked out your own personal requirements then PM me in the above format and I will update the spreadsheet accordingly

David

Just in case people are not aware of it, you can see the weight and dimensions of the various kits here:

Best of luck with the container,

Steve

Hello folks,

One of our contributors passed some recent info on his engine shipment cost:

> > Shipping door to door from Vans £334.74
> > UK LCL THC (whatever that is!)£25
> > UK Documentation fee £40
> > Presentation fee £14.50
> > Customs clearance £65
> > Customs VAT (@15%) £2188
> > Deferment fee (something to do with delayed vat payment) £65
> > Total £2733
> >
> > Interesting that if you take out the vat and the actual freight, there
> > is still about £250 in various other rip off fees to pay!

This was for a Lyc from Van's to Staffs. Delivered last month.

This was all organised directly through Vans.
Regards

All,
The VAT total above is based on the value of the shipment plus the shipping costs.

Definitions

UK LCL THC is a consol operators handling fee for unloading the goods from container
UK Documemtation = Consol Operators Admin fee for sending out Notice of arrival and Invoice
Presentation Fee = Additional Admin fee for Manifesting on Computer
Customs Clearance Fee = exactly that but higher than industry norm prob because private individual importer
Deferement Fee £65 is way high normally charge is made to mirror Banks Chaps Payment Fee which is approx £25 as the agent is using a credit facility to pay VAT but is collecting cleared funds from you

LCL Operator has made 200 clear profit on this small shipment

Please see our post on 2/1/09 in shipping Poll thread for more info
