Import advice
28.11.2009 at 05:54:22

Good morning all,

Just beginning to plan at the moment  I would really like to get back to building and especially an RV.
Should anyone have a project /kit they wish to sell I'm in the market " ,In the meantime
Can anyone advise on a "ball park" figure on shipping in a QB RV 7 kit. I really want to use the least hassle free route (if there is one?)
Any information would be much apprieciated.

Regards

When I shipped my kit just over 2 years ago I was quoted £3100 for a 20' container which would have mainly only fitted my kit, but for £3400 I got a 40' container which fitted lots of other peoples kits/parts too, so in the end I personally paid £1200. It's worth consolidating!!!!

About to leap in!

Forgive me if this has been gone over before?
The order for our RV7 is about to go in to Vans.My buddy Tony and myself have gone for Standard kit with QB wing.
We are informrd that shipping will be sometime April,at this time we are trying to get shipping estimate/s  we may be using Vans to arrange this?
The end user bit is we find a bit confusing, anyone who knows the drill on this in detail we would be very gratefull.

Many thanks
Alan

Look on the other threads, use Big Misters. I cannot recommend them enough, they sort absolutely EVERYTHING from pick up at Vans to delivery at your door, with all paperwork in between. I used them 2 years ago. You won't regret it, and they are well known to Vans. Give them a ring 01394 613457.

I just imported an RV-8QB less the emennage which I had sent by air earlier and the engine and prop which I will do later.  The QB came in a shared container using Big Misters as the forwarding agent with costs split using the Hutt formula.

Value of shipment 43,227 USD

Vans forwarding agent cost and insurance 315 USD

Fees billed by Big Misters:
Container shipping  £1004
Documentation £60
Customs charge £50
UK Security charge £10
Delivery from Felixtowe to Aylesbury unloaded at 2 places by integral crane for my convenience £300
VAT £4074
Advancement fee (search me) £25

Total of this section £5,574

I suspect you would be pressed to beat that but could match it if you find a bunch of builders to fill a large container.

I recommend BM because they sort everything out for you and don't charge some of the rip-off fees that can arise with ad-hoc importation.  Jon has not paid me to say this!
