RV6 - IO360 possible CS - FI Question
21.01.2014 at 19:04:22

Hi

Any thoughts or opinions on a IO360 - fitted with Dual P Mags and FM-150 Fuel injection system ??

I am getting close to ordering a engine ...  (will go for a hollow crank so a CS can be fitted .. may not fit it at first ... due to cost ...)

Any issues with dual PMag or maybe a single P Mag and a impulse coupled conventional Mag if LAA are not 'happy' about dual electric ignition ... ??

Appreciate any comment or thoughts on this -

Thanks in advance !

Hi Jan

dual Pmags are not a problem with the LAA. I have them on my new engine, the old had one mag and one Lightspeed. Fuel injection is the only sensible choice, better for aeros, no carb icing, allows harder leaning for better economy. May as well have a hollow crank, performance will be more than adequate with a FP prop but keep your options open.

G-RVVI has an angle valve 200hp IO-360.  Not sure it is necessary.

180hp with dual P-Mags and CS prop is ample on our RV7 - G-IVII.

LAA LAA may ask questions about dual P-Mags and a metal prop, however it is because they are not asking the right questions IMHO.  With an MT or composite, it isn't an issue.

Really good combo and the P-Mags are just brilliant - simple install, simple operation, great starts hot or cold.

7 Flying !, 8 in both workshops. Next one will be quicker, simpler, better. But they all say that, don't they ?

I should have said I have 2 Pmags with a wooden prop. As Mike says, the LAA will only allow twin EI with certain approved metal props, but there are several examples flying. Talk to the LAA about your proposed combination before committing yourself.
