RV-12 Rear Window/Transparencies Cracking.
11.01.2018 at 10:49:14

Hi to all.

We have an RV-12 with the window transparency adjacent to the fuel filler neck crazed with small cracks/lines.  Reading the VANs Airforce site there is much talk on the matter!

My questions are: Have we had any of these arising in the UK and if so what was done about it?  Just replace the window panel again and again or is there another solution?  What about an aluminium panel on this side to replace the window completely, or even on both sides?

Any thoughts or advice on the matter from the RV-12 Builder/Owners out there would be great.

Permit renewal soon and would like to deal with it.

Thanks

Hi all
I have just bought a rv12 and my rear window is crazed and cracked adjacent to the fuel filler
I have purchased a neoprene mat to put over the window when refueling but that's like shutting
the gate after the horse as gone.
Any thoughts are help would be appreciated
Thanks in advance K

It is because lexan (clear polycarbonate) doesn't like fuel.
It ought to be perspex, a.k.a plexiglass.

Why Van's specified Lexan right next to the fuel tank is a mystery. An even bigger one is why they don't change it! Must be an LSA thing.
The whole area of the RV12 fuel tank is a bit of a dog's breakfast from seeing my friend's build. That is his opinion too...
