FWF or Not ?
21.10.2010 at 11:52:37

I have ordered the rest of my kit and began to wonder if I should order the FWF kit at the same time, both for convenience and to avoid the vat increase and or additional shipping, even though it will be stored for a good while.

My engine is secondhand but I would replumb it with new anyway for reliability.

Are there any views on the value for money etc. of the FWF kits from Vans ?  Has anyone done it asssembling the parts locally ?

Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian...

My view would be, if you are a 1st time builder, and putting in a fairly standard engine / installation type, the Vans FWF is a good idea.

I doubt you could better the value locally.  Additionally, if you take into account the research you would need to do, and ordering lead times, then I cannot see "local" getting anywhere near.

OTOH, if you have a non-standard setup, and/or know exactly what you want, off-piste might work...

HTH?

Ian

My expereinece order every thing you can to make use of the space and save on the vat  Tongue
cannot tell you how i spent on FEDEX customs vat etc  Sad

My engine is an 0 360 A4K zero timed.  The vans FWF kit was perfect.
One tip  if you order a starter motor make sure you get the right one (149 tooth is for  0 360 )

Thanks for those thoughts.  Guess I need to find some more storage room.
The engine has the original heavy starter which will get replaced but is otherwise pretty standard.

Cheers
Ian

Dont worry about storage space for the fwf kit ...

You will get three medium size boxes
1) veterman exhaust system ( really nice piece of kit and fits perfectly )
2) Engine Baffel kit ( again typical vans takes a bit of work but just the job )
3) FWF stuff lots of bits (no real space required )
Installation of all this gear is fun
