CoG - CS / FP Wood Prop
26.10.2010 at 14:16:51

Currently struggling with a decision between the two.  Wallet says FP wood, for now, but heart says CS.
However another factor that I had not given full consideration to as yet is the CoG bearing in mind that I am not lightweight myself.

Can anyone give me the wheel weights of their RV7, preferably with )360, skytec starter, glass panel and with prop type/weight ? This is in order that I can work through some weight and balance options please.

Does anyone have the weight for the Hartzell blended aerofoil CS prop too ?

Thanks
Ian

Our RV7 with the following came out at 1080lbs with c of g right where it should be.

From memory, it was around 1010 on the main wheels and 70 on the tailwheel.

RV7
IO-360
MT c/s prop
Dynons
DigiTrak a/p
Garmin stack
Leather seats

The 8 may have a Whirlwind but with a similar setup, again, a light prop.  The MT is getting very expensive now compared to others.

Hi Ian,

I have bought a Hartzell 7497-2 for my -7. According to the FAA TCDS, max wt for the prop is 51.8lbs (probably the -0 74inch version)
It's a thing of beauty!

Steve

Thanks to all for the advice - have decided to take the plunge and go for the CS prop.

If you go for the MT, buy through Vans but get it shipped direct from MT to you.

Pay the extra for the large box, so it comes assembled.

They offered to send it disassembled and get one of their agents to assemble in the UK...............

You guessed it, I asked and they just wanted extortionate amounts to bolt it together and stamp the logbook.

When will some British aviation organisations realise that if they stop ripping people off, their business will increase and then they will make more money ?

Or is that too simplistic ?
