Slider or lift canopy
20.01.2010 at 10:37:45

undecidedHi! This is a message for all RV owners. My mate and I are thinking of building or buying an RV7/9 and have seen several todate. We both like the sliding cockpit/canopy arrangement but notice that there are more tilt or lift up models on the market. Is this just a preference thing or is there some other reason for so many RV's to have the lift up canopy? Our thinking is in relation to taxying on hot or gusty days conditions, the lift up looks more vulnerable.
Any comments, experience warmly received.

Kelston,

The tip up gives a bit more visability as there is no header rail etc. It also seems to be easier to fit/build than the slider. Agreed when its a hot day you can pull the slider back while taxying. I lift the canopy and rest on the rear catch to let some air in.

You cannot fly with the slider open.

Hope that helps your decission.

Regards,

Tim

Thanks for the info. A further thought is safety, what would happen in a belly up situation how would you get out from a lifter? it's a thought...

you wouldn't, nor would you get out of a slider by opening it. You would need a tool to break the canopy. Look at the archives of the RV Sqn for a thread on this topic suggesting suitable tools.
